Savannah Historic District

Step back in time as you enter the Savannah Historic District. This part of Savannah, Georgia incorporates the city’s limits back before and during the Civil War. It is home to some of the most beautiful buildings in the area as well as many important museums and historic sites.

Notice the individual wards of the Savannah Historic District as you walk along. Each individual ward has its own main square and a series of smaller buildings all around the region. This part of Savannah, GA highlights the extensive planning that went into making the city grow as well as it has.

Visit the many important historic sites of this part of the City of Savannah. See the home of Juliette Gordon Low, the founder of the Girl Scouts. Head over to the Temple Mickve Israel, one of the oldest Jewish synagogues in the country.  Learn about the history of rail travel in the area at the Central of Georgia Railway roundhouse, one of the oldest antebellum-era rail buildings in the country.

Don’t forget to head to Forsyth Park around the southern end of the historic district. This region features several walking paths and various trees dating back to around the Civil War era.
